Chat trigger is a powerful tool that will boost your engagement with the people who visit your website. These proactive trigger messages appear on different pages of the website.

How do chat triggers work?

Chat triggers are based on your audience information, conditions, and the behavior of your visitor or contact throughout your website. In this article, we described in precise all the filters available for the audience, conditions, and triggers, we recommend visiting the article to get a full understanding of how infinite the possibilities are.

How do I create a chat trigger?

  • Go to Outbound and click on Chats under Messages

  • Click on "Create chat"

  • Select a ready-made letter template or create a message from scratch. We chose to create a message from scratch

  • First, select to who you want to deliver the chat. We select All visitors.

Note: if you select leads or users, you can also apply properties, events, tags, lists, campaigns, and companies, they do not apply to visitors since visitors are your potential leads and users.

  • Then set up a new condition. For example, we selected Page URL that contains pricing. It means that when a visitor visits a pricing page, he will receive a triggered chat message. You can add as many conditions as you want by clicking on the "Add condition" button.

Note: in this article, we explain each condition in precise.

  • After you set up a condition, start working on the triggers that will trigger the chat message. Click on "Add trigger" and select the trigger.
We selected the "On exit intent" trigger. You can add several triggers, e.g., "On page load", "Click on page element", "Hover on page element".

  • Click "Continue"

  • Now select message localization, meaning you can select which language you want the chat message to be translated into. Please note that English is the default language, and we typed in a message in English into the text box.

  • To select more languages do the following:

  • Click on "English" and then click on "Add message localization"

  • We selected the Italian language as an example

  • Now type in the same message but in Italian under the Italian language you just chose. This message will appear to the people whose browser language is Italian.

  • You can do the same actions for the other languages on the list. For example, if you choose Spanish as well, Spanish will be added to the list, and then type a message translation in Spanish.

  • You can edit the message, add an image and even add YouTube, Vimeo videos to it, so on.

  • You can delete a certain language by clicking on the trash icon.

  • Click "Continue" in the top right corner once you are sure about the setup.

  • Give an internal title to recognize this chat message on your chats page

  • Select who this message will be delivered from

  • Select where you want to assign replies to

  • Select if you want the chat to appear only once per visitor, lead, or user.

  • Click on "Publish" to publish your chat trigger. The pop-up will appear asking if you are sure you want to publish it. Click on "Publish chat" again.
