Chat trigger is a powerful tool that will boost your engagement with the people who visit your website. These proactive trigger messages appear on different pages of the website.

How do chat triggers work?

Chat triggers are based on your audience information, conditions, and the behavior of your visitor or contact throughout your website. In this article, we explain all the three steps you need to take to publish your chat. Let's dive deep into it.

How do I manage the audience filter?

You can select the type of audience you want to target with the chat trigger.

  • The audience filter consists of the audience type:

    • All visitors,

    • All contacts

    • All users

    • All Leads

  • If you selected the audience type: All contacts or All users or All leads, filter the audience by:

    • properties

    • events

    • tags

    • lists

    • campaigns

    • companies

  • Simply click on "Add filter".

How do I manage conditions?
Now restrict your chat message to certain pages, domains or fire it after a specified time:

  • Pages visited by a visitor or a contact. E.g. page URL > contains (∋) > pricing

Note: if you click on the ∋ button you can select other conditions such as not contains, equals, not equals.

  • How many times has a person viewed a page within one session. E.g. session views > (lower than) > 5 > on pages matching > marketing-automation

  • From which device they visit the page: mobile or desktop

  • During or out of your working hours. Make sure you set up your working hours in the settings.

Note: Each condition has three dots and the trash icon near it.

  • If you click on the three dots button, you can add another infinite condition or duplicate it.

  • If you want to delete a condition, click on the trash icon.

How do I manage triggers?

After you set up your conditions, manage the triggers by clicking on "Add trigger". Trigger messages when someone leaves your pages, clicks or stays on a part of your page, and more. In precise:

  • On page load

    • Immediately or after delay. E.g. 2 seconds

  • On exit intent. When someone tries to exit a page, the trigger message will pop up.

  • Click on the page element. Enter the element selector, e.g., #my-element-div. Check this CSS selector documentation.

    • Immediately or after delay.

  • Hover on page element. Enter the element selector, e.g., #my-element-div. Check this CSS selector documentation.

    • Immediately or after delay.

So when someone hovers over or clicks on a page element immediately or after some delay you set up, the trigger message will pop up.
